Aug 18 - Summer Vacation Activities to Try with Your Kids

The summer holidays can often stretch on endlessly and can drive some parents mad. Without school filling the majority of their day, children turn to their parents for entertainment and activities to keep them from feeling bored. So what summer activities can you try out to keep everyone happy?

1. Pick your own

The weather’s shining and you want something fun to do that gets you outdoors, right? Why not go picking? Visit a local farm and pick strawberries or blueberries, or tomatoes, or whatever you can find. Maybe go into the countryside on the hunt for blackberries, or find a nice meadow where you can pick flowers.

2. Go camping

Camping is a great adventure, one that almost every child enjoys. Get them involved in picking out the tent (if you don’t already have one) and helping you set it up. You could even go stargazing at night and enjoy telling stories around the campfire whilst making smores.

3. Go on a picnic

Pack a picnic with a few nice treats and go somewhere new. Whether you drive there or walk, a picnic is a great way to spend time together as a family and enjoy the sunshine.

4. Try out your green thumb

Why not get the children involved in the garden? Maybe plant a vegetable patch or some flowers and try out your gardening skills. Especially if your kids haven’t spent much time gardening, this could be the ideal time to spark their interest in the flora and fauna.

5. Build a fort

Everyone loves a building project, so why not build a fort. It could be from cushions and pillows in the house, or from wood in the garden. You could even maybe think about building a tree house if you have the right tree.

6. Play mini golf

Who doesn’t love mini golf? A great game for all the family, everyone can enjoy mini golf, even the young ones.

7. Go exploring

Why not go on an adventure and visit some nearby villages? Many people often don’t explore the little places nearby and you could be pleasantly surprised; nice little eateries, activities for the kids. You’ll likely find a whole host of things to do.

You could even go out into the wild and explore nature. Maybe take the kids on a bug safari and see what creepy crawlies they can find.

8. Create a treasure hunt

If you fancy getting super creative, then create a treasure hunt that gets them thinking. Combine riddles and clues to create a fun afternoon activity. Perfect at home or in the local park.

9. Get creative with chalk

Chalk is a great way to unleash the inner artist and will keep your children entertained for hours. You could even buy glow-in-the-dark chalk and spy your pavement creations from the bedroom at night.

10. Volunteer

Instilling good values is an important task for every parent, and what better way to do that than by volunteering as a family. Whether it’s at the local soup kitchen, or getting involved in a community project, volunteering is a great way to get everyone doing something whilst also giving back.
