Nov19-Cord-Tissue-Banking-Advantages

Did you know that aside from saving your baby’s umbilical cord blood after birth, you also have the option to store a piece of the umbilical cord itself? This is called cord tissue banking and is offered by many cord blood banks in addition to cord blood banking.

So why should you consider saving the umbilical cord tissue, too?

Your baby’s umbilical cord contains a rich amount of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). It also contains other stem cell types not found in the cord blood such as unrestricted somatic stem cells, vascular endothelial stem cells, and perivascular stem cells. These stem cells are expected to have a great therapeutic benefit in the future so preserving them, together with the stem cells from the cord blood provides parents more treatment options in the future.

Umbilical cord tissue is currently being used in clinical trials for potential treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), retinal pigmentosa, severe genodermatosis and more!

Here’s a list of registered clinical trials worldwide that are currently recruiting patients for therapies using Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSC) from umbilical cord tissue »

How does cord tissue banking works?

The process of collecting the cord tissue is simple, painless and safe for both the mother and baby. It is done right after the cord blood sample is collected.

With Cells4Life, we provide you a collection kit that contains both cord blood and cord tissue collection materials. Simply bring the collection kit with you to the hospital on the day of delivery and hand it to your doctor or midwife. They will do the collection for you but remember to let them know in advance that you want to collect the cord blood and cord tissue so they are aware of it.

The collected cord tissue then undergoes testing in our lab and is preserved for future use. At Cells4Life, we provide the options to store the cord tissue for 20, 25, 30, 35 & 60 years! We have also released cord tissue sample for treatment of Epidermolysis Bullosa. See more sample releases by Cells4Life
