Aug 25 - Indoor Summer Activities for Kids, Covid19

The Covid-19 pandemic has meant that we need to find new ways to entertain ourselves and our kids. Not only have day trips and holidays been cancelled over the past few months, but we have all had to learn to spend more time in our own homes.

It isn’t always easy to make staying in fun or exciting, particularly when it seems like this is all you have done for weeks, but with our help we are going to try.

We have put together a range of summer indoor activities which you can do with your kids during home quarantine, not only to make them smile but also to keep them entertained too.

Make a science project

You have to admit it, the best projects at school were always the ones that were set in science. So, with many children missing out on some of the fun side of school, why not bring a touch of science to them now? Set and then help them with a science project, this could be making crystals or perhaps exploring the world of volcanoes with your own mini version. Not only is this great fun, but it is also great for learning too.

Ask them to put on their own show

Every child loves to dance, sing and just generally show off in front of their family, so why not embrace this and get them to put on their very own show for you? Sure, you are going to have to sit through it (and smile the whole time of course) but it will definitely keep them entertained for a while and give them something fun to do too.

Get crafty

We know that the idea of arts and crafts don’t appeal to everyone, but we think this is a real shame as arts and crafts can be great fun. There are so many things that you can make and the majority of kids really love getting messy and making fun things. It can be expensive to invest in craft things, but if you do spend out then you will definitely find plenty of fun activities.

Make chores a competition

Getting your children to do chores is hard and being on lockdown means that we are spending more time in the house (and making it messier). So, why not teach your children the importance of helping out with the chores at home? If they are not keen, then you can always make chores a competition. We can promise you that your chores will be done in no time at all.

Have themed family nights

If there is one thing that many of us have found during lockdown it is that we actually quite like spending time together as a family. So, why not encourage this even more and set up themed family nights? This could involve fancy dress, a certain movie or perhaps a game show or quiz. Whatever you do, it is going to be great fun and something that you will definitely all enjoy together.

Being at home doesn’t mean that you are stuck, it just means that you need to think outside the box and discover what different things you can do, all from the comfort of your own home.
