Oct 11 - Common Fears of New Parents

Becoming a parent is a life-changing event and one of the most eye-opening experiences a person is ever likely to encounter in life. Being a new parent is not an easy task though. You will try to do your best to take care of your newborn but at some point, you will start to wonder if you are doing everything the right way.

Here are some of the most common fears of every new parent and how to overcome them:

1) Worrying about general health issues at night time

There are many dangers and risks to newborns, especially at night time when they sleep, such as breathing issues and SID. To help overcome this worry, you must remind yourself that these issues are rare. You will likely be sleeping in the same room as your baby plus you can use a baby alarm to track your child. You should also keep potential hazards out of the way when your baby is sleeping like stuffed animals and large blankets. And make sure that your baby’s crib is safe and well-made.

2) Worrying that your child will choke on their pacifier

Another common concern among new parents is that their child might choke on the pacifier. Remember to always use baby products manufactured by reputable companies. Check the pacifier’s quality before you give it to your baby and if it gets worn or damaged, toss it out immediately and replace with a new one.

3) Worrying that you or your partner will drop your child

To avoid dropping your child, make sure you have a firm and secure grip when holding your child all the time. You should also remove any tripping hazards that lay around your house. Childproofing your home is another way to protect your child from getting hurt inside your house.

4) Worrying that you won’t bond with your baby

Many new parents, especially the mothers fear that they might not be able to develop a deep bond with their baby. The fact is that some mothers bond with their baby even before they were born while others will take a little longer. You just have to be patient and continue on taking care of your baby the best that you can. And in time, your bond will grow stronger before you even realize it.

Experiencing these common fears of every new parent doesn’t make you paranoid at all. Considering your newborn’s safety a priority is one of your most important roles as a parent.
