All mums will boast that their child is the smartest, that their child is better than all the others. And there’s nothing wrong with that but did you know there are in fact some simple ways to make your baby smarter? Here’s a list of top tips:

Stimulate vision

When your newborn baby begins to open its eyes, make sure you take every opportunity to make eye contact. Your baby will be able to recognise faces from an early age, so you want to ensure that yours is one they know.

As well as this, show your baby images. Hold up pictures around 8 – 12 inches from your baby’s face. Ensure they’re similar – perhaps one has a car and the other doesn’t – and this will help them to begin to recognise objects.

Make your baby laugh

Being silly and playing around to make your baby laugh will help them develop a sense of humour. And by mixing up your routine will keep your baby guessing what comes next.

Bond

Bonding with your baby is one of the best ways to make your baby smarter. Bonding via breastfeeding is a great way to boost your child’s IQ. By bonding with your child, you will make them feel safe and that sense of security will be what helps their intelligence to thrive.

Be physical

Allow your baby to climb all over you, move around with them and copy them. Following your baby around on the floor copying what they do will not only be funny but will encourage your child to stretch their creativity.

Explore new places

Encourage your baby to step out of the stroller or baby carrier when you can. Letting your child to explore their surroundings is not only an endless opportunity for them to build up their vocabulary but it will encourage their imagination and help with their memory.

Play

Playing with your baby is one of the best ways to make your baby smarter. Not only will this encourage their problem solving skills but there are many more life lessons here, like the laws of gravity.

Talk

Talk to your baby a lot. Tell them everything. Narrate your day if you have to but try and keep up a constant flow of words. The more your child hears words, the easier it will become for them to pick it up later when they begin to talk.

Language

Language and communication as a whole is a great testament as to how intelligent your baby is. And if you’re looking for ways to make your baby smarter then you need to be encouraging language. Get into the habit of pointing to objects as you say what they are and around the age of 9 months, your baby will begin to see what you’re pointing at and start to make the connection with what you’re saying.

Teach texture

Providing your baby with an array of textures is all a learning experience. Walk around your house with your baby in your arms and introduce them to a range of different textures.  Let your child feel the cool glass of the windows, rub the soft feel of their clothes on their tummy. Talk as you do this and tell them about what their feeling.
