DEC10 - 5 Creative Ideas to Celebrate the Festive Season at Home

The festive season, one of the most anticipated seasons in almost here with us. Amidst a worldwide coronavirus pandemic, the celebrations are bound to be different this year. While many families usually celebrate together, this year it will be different since the number of people at the dinner table will be fewer.  As a result of the various restrictions, there are bound to be fewer activities and some people might not travel.

The festive season is meant for delight and merriment, to celebrate with the ones you love, family and friends alike.  To inspire you to have a creative festive season, we have put together 5 ways to help you have a season that will be joyous and safe for you and your loved ones.

Decorate differently this year

Instead of only decorating only one or two rooms in the house, go a step further and decorate an extra room or add some festive magic all around the house.  Purchase or make some DIY decorations that add a smile to your loved ones and have them scattered in various rooms.

Play festive-themed games or puzzles

Since you’re going to spend more time indoors, get some festive-themed games and puzzles that can help you pass the time. Form teams based depending on the number of people in the house.  Where possible, set the mood using a fire or candles and play to your heart’s content[1].

Host a virtual party

As a result of the social distancing rules, many people can’t be gathered in the same place all at once. Technology like Zoom makes it possible for you to still see your family and friends over the festive season[2].  Gather some games, send everyone a link, and host a virtual party that’s full of fun.

Prepare festive meals

The festive season is all about food and what better way to cook the meals other than involving the entire family.  Even though there might be fewer people at the dinner table this year, don’t use it as an excuse not to put in an effort into the meal preparation.  Decide on the menu early enough and shop for all that you’ll need.  Don’t be afraid to try out new recipes even for those that are traditionally not seen as festive meals.

Make a festive playlist and get a karaoke machine

You don’t have to be an accomplished singer to have fun singing along to your favorite songs. Prepare the playlist early enough and remember to include the favorite festive songs of each of the family members.  While you’re at it, you can even create your personalized festive season soundtrack that’s fun and entertaining.
