What Is The AABB?
The AABB is an international not-for-profit organisation founded in 1947. They are the global leader in developing standards, accreditation and implementation of quality control systems for transfusion medicine and cellular therapies.
The association’s primary goal is to protect donors and patients. As of 2019, they have provided accreditation for more than 2,000 institutions and 8,000 individuals around the world.

The AABB has a comprehensive set of standards that are applied to its members. These standards range from how samples are screened to how they are stored. A special committee of ethicists, physicians and cord blood experts revises these standards every two years and accredited institutions must re-apply to be certified.
