Scientists have been interested in using stem cells for skin rejuvenation for a number of years. A medical research facility in Iran has finally managed to create a viable stem cell procedure that rejuvenates the skin and improves its appearance. The treatment is expected to be released to the general public this year.

The facility responsible for the product is The Skin Research Center of Iran University of Medical Sciences. This will be the first mass-produced treatment that uses stem cells for skin rejuvenation.

One of the researchers at the facility, Dr. Mohammadali Nilforoushzadeh, said of the new treatment: “The product was initially trialled successfully on 22 patients in the first phase and on 24 patients in the second phase,” he continued, “The permit to conduct human trials was obtained after successful trial runs on mice in the laboratory,”

This stem cell therapy involves the injection of stem cells into certain areas of the face to improve the tone and texture of the skin. A stem cell solution has also been created, which can be applied topically.

It’s not the first that a company has used stem cells for skin rejuvenation — however it might be the first time that the product works effectively.

Unlike many cosmetic products, stem cells do not contain harsh chemicals or abrasive agents. They can be applied to the skin without the risk of side effects or adverse reactions to chemical components. The treatment does not require anaesthesia or other medications and is expected to be quite cost-effective.

This stem cell treatment encourages the skin to produce collagen and elastin. These substances make the skin tighter — reducing the appearance of wrinkles. This is probably the first of many products that use stem cells for skin rejuvenation.
